Marelco: INTENSIVE AND INTELLIGENT RESTRUCTURING (??)

--Bishop Evangelista

MARELCO & NAPOCOR: Not Amusing Anymore!

THE SOUND OF SILENCE

Marelco to Napocor on restructuring proposal; what transpired after one year now?

The question is; Does Marelco and Napocor had a LEGAL agreement on how the payments will be done?

Marinduque: Marelco & Napocor, NOT AMUSING ANYMORE!

110th Anniversary of PULANG LUPA: a political stink!

The essence of September 13th!

Politicians become disrespectful in gesture as they “refuse" to attend the 110th Commemoration of BATTLE OF PULANG LUPA yesterday.

The Spirit of Shields After A Hundred Years

A small group of Americans are quietly joining this year's commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Pulang Lupa.

What emphasis Paye and Pulang Lupa had in common? The great grand father of Cong. Allan Quinto Velasco was one among who fought for the victory.

...AND CENTER OF PHILIPPINE-AMERICAN WAR, LOOK!

September 13, 1900 Battle of Pulang Lupa (TORRIJOS, MARINDUQUE):Filipino Victory
(Number of Filipino casualties unknown;
4 Americans killed, 6 wounded, 50 captured)
(Considered a milestone in Philippine history. Led by Lt. Col. Maximo Abad on the Filipino side, Capt. Devereux Shields' defeat sent shock waves through the American high command and it was considered the worst defeat suffered by the Americans during the war. This led to the first application in the Philippine-American War of population concentration in Marinduque’s six town centers, a coercive measure that finally led to Abad’s surrender on April 15, 1901).

THE BATTLE OF PULANG LUPA

To counteract the continuous guerrilla plunder of the Marinduque
Revolutionary Capt. Devereux Shields, commander of company of the 29th
Infantry USA decided to implement massive pacification campaign in
Torrijos which started on Sept. 11, 1900.

With the arrival of the American Soldiers, Lt. Col. Maximo Abad together
with his trusted leaders, started their plan of attack. It was the consensus
among them that Pulang-Lupa would be the best site to ambush the
American troops.

Pulang Lupa was a very advantageous location. His officers that helped
Abad execute his plan included Capt. Pedro Lardizabal, Captain Cayetano
“Alapaap” Vida Gunersindo dela Santa, Pedro Madrigal, Teofilo Roque,
Raymundo Recalde, Isabelo Silva, Luciano Parreño and others.
In the early morning of September 13, 1900 fierce battle between untrained
but determined and brave Filipino revolutionaries on one hand, and the
expert American soldiers on the other, took place.

After many hours of fighting, Capt. Devereux Shields, wounded on the left
shoulder ordered a slow retreat, taking with them the disabled and wounded.

Because of the set back of the American Force, Capt. Deveruex Shield
ordered the raising of a white flag and finally surrendered to Col. Maximo
Abad after a bloody battle that lasted for many hours.

Though there was great casualty on the part of the Filipinos, it was a major
battle won by the Marinduque Revolutionary Force, The mortality on the part
of the American Force included 4 dead and several wounded.

Although several American reinforcement forces were sent to Marinduque
to rescue Capt. Shields and his 48 soldiers, it was only on October 14,
1900 that on order of the Revolutionary Government in Cavite that Col.
Maximo Abad released the captured American soldiers in Buenavista. The
Battle of Pulang Lupa is recorded in the Annual Reports of War Department
of the United State and in the National Archives and Record Service,
Washington D.C.

It is rather a great regret that the History of the Battle of Pulang Lupa, is
never mentioned in the Philippine History books.

PULANG LUPA: Scanning Masaguisi this time!

Ramon Madrigal's account of the Battle of Pulang Lupa, that first appeared in The Journal of History, published by the Philippine National Historical Society (September-December 1963 issue), entitled "Marinduque: Its Role in the Wars for Independence" was probably the first ever published about this subject.

A HALT TO INCREASE PRIME COMMODITIES IN THE PROVINCE!

Wake-up call!

Marinduque Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) should make a stand now to repeal and refrain the LGU's
from enforcing an Ordinance No. 87 series of 2010 entitled “An Ordinance Providing for a Comprehensive Uniform Rules and Regulations Concerning Rolling Stores, Delivery Trucks/ Vans in the Province of Marinduque Creating for the Purpose a Task Purpose and for Other Purposes”.

Taxation of 1% on movable goods is principled in additional transport cost and affects the end users. To avoid businessmen/ traders in recouping the additional cost on goods, repealing the said fees and taxes from Sangguniang Panlalawigan would mean a lot to all Marinduqueños.

Torrijos: September 13th Celebration

The most comprehensive account of the U.S. Army’s pacification of Marinduque from the period April 1900 to April 1901 was published in the Journal of Military History 61 (April 1997), in an paper written by Andrew J. Birtle.

On the thirteenth (September), Shields led his detachment into the mountains with the intention of returning to Santa Cruz. Well informed about Shields's movements, Shields walked right into the ambush. A fire fight ensued for several hours before Shields ordered a retreat into a covered ravine. What began as a slow withdrawal quickly turned into a race down a rocky stream bed, as the Americans scrambled to escape the pincers that were moving to surround them (until) Shields fell seriously wounded.
